Decorate With Brass Beds.......Beauty in the Boudoir

The brass bed can be a truly beautiful addition to the bedroom. The soft aged glow of antique brass brings a romantic and elegant coziness. Even slightly tarnished, it's still beautiful to me.

Antique brass beds, once they appeared in America at the 1853 New York World's Fair, became popular in the United States almost overnight. That popularity has continued into modern times, when simple to highly ornamented beds are available.Congrats to you if you are fortunate enough to have an antique. If not, there is greater availability, of course, in reproductions. Just be selective, some can look more like plastic than brass with their overshined finish. You want a soft patina, even in your new bed.

Brass beds provide both function and beauty. If you've just acquired an antique brass bed showing its age, often a good cleaning will bring it back to its former glory. Most brass beds made after the 1940s or 1950s will be lacquered to prevent tarnish. As long as the lacquered finish is in good condition, cleaning these beds is often as easy as giving them a good washing with hot water and dish soap. Older beds may need polishing to remove tarnish.Unfortunately, brass requires a lot of maintenance to keep it looking good. It should be a labor of love or left to a professional.
