Blue And White Decor......A Perennial Favorite

No matter what design style, blue and white is still one of the most requested color combinations. There is something about the soothing freshness of interiors that use these two colors.

Always crisp, clean, and inviting, blue and white is a perennial favorite and one I never got tired of using. In fact this color combination led me to my husband after I got acquainted with his mother while decorating her house in, you guessed it... Blue and White!!

A gorgeous example of why we all love blue and white interiors.

I want to start off with the lighter side of blue and white spaces. The blues in these interiors are rich in color but provide a softer and more calming atmosphere.

Just think of the way you feel when looking at blue skies with big fluffy white clouds. Maybe this is why we are drawn to these rooms.....they evoke an emotion we find pleasant.

This window treatment in blue and white plaid shows just how refreshing this color pairing can be.

Blue and white was a color combination that people had not seen before but became mesmerized with as accessories from the Orient became available to Europe.

I like the blue and white Delft Holland influenced background in this interior. Add in white woodwork for a crisp, clean look. Also blue and white works really well with furniture made of darker woods.

I absolutely love this blue and white painted desk. Painted in an oriental motif, it is a great way to bring Asian flavor into an interior without a full commitment to the theme.

Another wonderful blue and white painted table. Any interior will benefit from a piece of painted antique or well painted reproduction furniture..... with the emphasis on well painted.

Blue and white has such a welcoming ambience which makes this color combo perfect for a foyer. This mural and the painted settee provide a warm reception for visitors.

Wallpapers are making a huge comeback as are stripes. This blue and white dining room has it all!

This settee is divinely decked out in blue and white checks. Add the Chinese export porcelain and faux limestone walls and you have perfection.

If you prefer a French interior, nothing can compare to blue and white toile de jouy. A French daybed covered in this blue and white fabric should be convincing enough.

Anything upholstered in blue toile de jouy gives an instant French look to any room.

There are so many shades of soft blue to choose from when decorating your blue and white space. Something for every personality!

Now for the darker side of the blue and white interior.

If you are looking for more boldness and high contrast, a darker blue and white interior will be a good choice.

Even though this is a more dramatic darker blue and white interior, it still gives a sense of serenity and calmness. That is because the colors are so well balanced and the eye can rest here.

This blue and white space shows how a small space can look grand when decorated correctly. I am an advocate for the use of portieres on doorways like shown here. To see my blog post about portieres click here.

An interior featuring blue walls with elegant creamy white millwork is hard to beat. There is alot to be said for the restfulness this combo brings to a room.

Another welcoming blue and white foyer, this time with lighter walls and dark blue millwork.
