How To Decorate Country Bedrooms With Charm

Our bedrooms should offer a quite retreat from the stresses of everyday living. No matter where you live, the rural countryside or the heart of the big city, you can enjoy a simpler way of life by decorating your home in country cottage/farmhouse style. This type of decorating especially in the bedroom, emphasizes comfort and relaxation. It's a nostalgic look that somehow also seems to reflect current style movements. All the while charmingly nostalgic, but never at the expense of function. Perhaps that's why it endures. It's a feeling of eras gone by, and relaxed days and homemade lemonade.

You can design a country decor that is warm and inviting once you know how to use fabrics, colors and objects together to create a harmonious look. Aim for the well-loved and the well-worn in country vintage style. Family treasures, antiques, flea market finds and junkyard art look perfect in this decor. You can have fun treasure hunting. I hope these images help you get some ideas for YOUR country bedroom.

A well coordinated country bedroom. The painted headboards are the focal points that everything revolves around. The first thing you need to do is create your focal point and then work out from there. My dining room was decorated around the colors in a large antique vase that I use as a focal point centerpiece on my table.

If you have the room, find an overstuffed chair, chaise or ottoman to fill a corner for a relaxing bedroom retreat. The curtain behind the headboard is easy to onstruct and look what a statement it makes.

Cover the bed in a handmade quilt. The addition of a lace half canopy and mantle headboard completes this pretty bedroom.

Basking in a country bedroom slows down the pace after a busy day. The country look often uses painted pieces so look for chests, bedside tables, and other pieces that need some rescuing and give them a coat of paint. I'm not sure I would have painted this bed, but it is pretty in this room.

Pretty framed needlework is always a nice accent for a pretty country style bedroom.

If you want your room colorful, think of colors you might see in a quilt for ideas.

Be sure to use crafts and homemade pieces. Just don't over do it on the crafts. A few good pieces will enhance the look while too many lesser quality pieces tend to cheapen.

Big fluffy comforters, cushions and pillows and a gorgeous mix of toile and floral patterns makes this a dreamy country bedroom.

Iron beds are perennial favorites of country bedrooms. Make sure your lighting choices have a vintage look to them.

Decorate with timeworn antiques and family heirlooms. Also stenciling is a pretty wall treatment for a country bedroom.

Add a dust ruffle. They can be floral, striped, gingham ......the choice is up to you.

Mix old with new by choosing naturally worn painted pieces, or speed up the process by giving lightly sanded wood furnishings a wash of latex paint in pretty country colors.

A pretty combination of toile, florals, gingham and stripes. Don't be afraid to mix patterns, just be careful and selective. If you are unsure, seek professional help in coordinating them. It won't be very expensive and will pay dividends!

I love this room because of the beautiful shade of  robin's egg blue, the coverlet and the pillow selection.

Vintage is no place for sleek black surfaces or dark, moody colors. Country is a good style to be creative with as seen in this cute and clever bed.

Drape a hand-knitted or crocheted throw across the end of the bed.
