Decorating With Brass......2013's Hot Trend

Designers and decorators around the country are predicting brass will be a hot trend in 2013. It has been gaining momentum for a year now and with so many designers looking to the '70s, and entire rooms of it by Kelly Wearstler, brass is the metal of the moment. Brass never really left my arsenal because I like authenticity in classical decor and brass has been a staple for centuries. I am thrilled to see the resurgence and like many others have been craving the warm glow of unlacquered brass. It was once nickel that was the rage. Then stainless steel. And then, chrome showed up. But I think the decorating public is tired of all that silver. Brass has a certain glow that exudes warmth. Used in small amounts it changes an interior unlike any chrome/nickel/steel product ever can. Just be sure and not go all crazy and plate every metallic element in your house brass. Use it sparingly or use it in unexpected ways. From accessories to furniture and accent hardware, you'll be seeing it making a grand reappearance. Remember it is not the shiny plastic looking brass of a couple of decades ago.Now the look is more refined. Here's how you can bring some brass into your interiors.

Our stairways will gleam in golden luxury! You will see several in this post . They remind me of Coco Chanel's famous stairs at 31 rue Cambon, Paris

With its rich gleam and sculptural weight, this metal is experiencing a much anticipated comeback.

Of course it never went away for those of us who love antiques and classical decor.

I have always used beautiful antique brass accents.

New brass lighting and hardware will freshen up your kitchens.

Golden dressing room, complete with leather and brass. Brass has become extremely popular in the past year or two thanks to designers like Kelly Wearstler. Wearstler is one of the most famous designers today who has helped in the revival of brass and gold accents used in home decor.

Look for large-scale modern headboards. Also the antique brass beds will become popular again.

Don't decorate like the 1980's where brass was everywhere. See how the other types of metal are used with the brass table for an eclectic style.

Pretty drawer pulls and hardware will warm up the kitchens that have been left cold by all the stainless steel.

Shelves trimmed in brass give a bit of shine while still keeping it contemporary.

Brass tables are definitely a design trend.

Brass accent pieces can bring a lot of sophistication and style to a room.

This is the color of brass I love. Look for pieces to be burnished and warm.

See how one brass element brings this kitchen to life.

In Jackie Astier's Manhattan apartment, a 19th-century French chandelier hangs above a dining table made from a pair of ’70s brass bases found on eBay; the ’40s French dining chairs are upholstered in a Lelièvre velvet, the shades are of a Lee Jofa silk, and the rug is by the Rug Company. The walls were painted with 10 coats of custom lacquer.

I adore this beautiful brass chinoiserie style staircase.
