Decorating Interiors With The Color Blue

Blue is always high on the list when people are asked their favorite color. Friendly and fresh, blue is a color that appeals to both genders. It doesn't feel too sweet, and it doesn't feel too masculine

Pale blue is simple, carefree, and a perennial favorite in decorating circles because of its freshness and clarity, especially when paired with crisp white woodwork. Navy, ocean blue, teal, aqua, ice, cobalt, –there are so many variations of blue. A go to hue, blue is easy to decorate with and, more importantly, to live in without quickly becoming weary of it. And this perennial favorite can be used almost anywhere!

Blue, being a primary color, is relatively safe to use with any other colors, but this blog post's focus is on blue as a leading color. Enjoy!

Warm calming blues, like the shade shown here (or like denim, ocean blue, or slate blue), contain hints of red. Color experts say they advance, or come toward you, so they help make a room feel cozier.

Decorators often like warm blues in social spaces, like the living room, the kitchen, or the dining room.

Bedrooms are places of relaxation so a calming shade of blue is a good choice for this room.

Blue is a timeless and perennial color that when used correctly can create outstanding interiors.

Mixing patterns can be a challenge but aren’t your interiors more charming with wonderful patterns that add visual interest and contrast? There are so many lovely blue patterns out there to have fun with.

Keeping a blue color palette in mind is key as not all blues need to be the exact same shade when decorating. Rather, a range of blues and whites in varying degrees of darks and lights is just what you need.

You can choose neutral colored walls and put the blue emphasis on your furniture.

Or you can choose to saturate both your walls and furniture in blue. Either way makes for striking interiors.

Don't forget the wallpapered room. There are many styles and patterns of paper to help you create an amazing blue interior.

Bathrooms tend to be smaller spaces but don't be afraid to use blue. Dark colors visually recede, making something that’s dark look further away than it really is. Take advantage of that and decorate your bath with your favorite shade of blue.

This is another pretty shade of blue that would create a relaxing bathroom.

Again, don't be afraid of darker blues they can actually help a small space look bigger while bringing a sense of coziness at the same time.

For a more sophisticated look, try pairing dark blues and browns. This color combination also works well for a tropical colonial style interior.

When you choose a darker blue it will not be as calming, it will be more dramatic and unique.
