Decorating Paris Apartment Style.........A Grand Mix Of Classical And Contemporary.

While the interiors of the French chateau and the English manor definitely have first place in my heart, the Parisian apartment is running in the number two position with it's grand mix of classical and contemporary. I love to see the grand interior structures with the elaborate gilded moldings and boiserie that give these apartments their history. Add in the contemporary furnishings and lighting that gives them that chic and stylish modern appeal and you have magic.

Whether you are lucky enough to live in Paris or simply want this look in your home right here in the states, I hope these images will help you. Alluring and sensual, this blending of styles is a great look. Hats off again to the French! Enjoy!

The quintessential Parisian apartment with beautiful architectural detailing and ornamentation juxtaposed with modern furnishings. Even with sleek leather sofas this apartment still keeps it's French 18th century feel.

The majority of Paris apartments are painted white. Who needs colorful walls when you have classical crown molding and ceilings like this!

Besides, the white paint gives the classically inspired interiors of the Paris apartment a modern, casual ambiance and a light airy feel.

Designers of Paris apartments go for an updated classical approach with bold new styles that blend seamlessly with the more traditional backgrounds that the carved boiserie and moldings provide.

Depending on your personal style, you can choose to leave some of your walls completely free of ornamentation, allowing the rich classical carvings and plasterwork to steal the show.

Or you can choose to wow with interesting contemporary artwork and sculpture. Just don't overdue in the Parisian apartment.

In the Paris apartment you will find fabulous, classical, carved boiserie and furniture from different periods. However, clean contemporary lines will be a common element.

If you prefer classical boiseries with antiqued patinas, the Paris look will still work for you if you add in some contemporary furnishings and accessories.

My favorite way to pull off this aesthetic is to create spaces that are modern and streamline but also incorporate touches of flamboyance. I also like beautiful French antiques mixed in with contemporary furnishings.

The apartment buildings in Paris are loaded with classical moldings and fireplaces. All you need is to add in the contemporary element and you can create magic. This homeowner has chosen to add excitement through the use of color and metal in a young, modern way.

The trick to decorating a home with a mix of classical and contemporary is to display beautifully detailed accessories but to also keep everything very subtle and low-key.

Today, the ability to mix and match styles effectively has become a status symbol. This is why the Paris apartment style is very much in demand.

The classical elements of a Paris apartments like beautiful moldings, chevron floors, and wrought-iron balconies are offset by a mix of contemporary furnishings in this great space.

Learning to under decorate is key to the Paris apartment style of mixing classical and contemporary. With really good pieces, like these two Eames lounge chairs, it is easy to let them be the stars of the show.

Who says classical and contemporary don't belong together!!

Classical elements along with a modern sophisticated stylishness is what makes these Paris apartments so appealing.

If you like dark, moody interiors don't be afraid to still try this style. Black boiserie and classical moldings wedded to contemporary furnishings can be a marriage made in heaven.

The contrast of classical and contemporary is exiting and chic. Choosing to under decorate certain spaces creates a beautiful streamlined look that will wow your guests.

Decorate With Large, Ornate Leaning Mirrors

I have been leaning large, ornate mirrors in my home since 1987, long before it became a popular decorating idea. So to me it is a classical, "just makes sense" thing to do if you have a beautiful oversized antique mirror to display.

Large, framed mirrors sitting on the floor and leaning against the wall are very popular in today's homes and have been for the past few years so this blog post won't impress you with the latest cutting edge trend. I am just publishing it because I think there are many advantages to purchasing a big, gorgeous mirror for your space and I happen to think they are pretty leaned against walls. I am partial to leaning antique mirrors and believe with their extra large size and elegant design they can infuse refinement into any room and give any space a classic aesthetic.

I believe this look will settle in for the long haul and not just be a passing fad. Hopefully this post will convince you lean a mirror in your home.

Doesn't this make your mouth water? Any of these fabulous mirrors would be beautiful to use as a leaner.

Leaning artwork and mirrors instead of hanging them brings down the  feel of a room to a more casual elegance.

Large ornate floor mirrors certainly will add drama to your interiors. However, leaning mirrors also give an effortless, less formal look to a room.

A beautiful oversized mirror is the perfect solution for opening up a small, closed room and making it appear larger.

When deciding where to lean your mirror make sure that what is reflected is something that is visually appealing. For instance in this picture the bed is emphasized. It could even be a piece of artwork. Just make sure it is something lovely!

If you have the space, try this lovely effect. Lean two mirrors facing each other and create a seemingly endless line of images fading into the distance.

One advantage to leaning a large mirror is that it can be easily moved around until you find the perfect spot without making unnecessary holes in the walls. And a mirror this size would require toggle bolts which make large holes and can really mar a wall. This is especially helpful for those who are renting an apartment or house.

To keep your leaning mirror secure, put something underneath the frames edge that would prevent it sliding on you. Also you might want to use a nail and wire to tie it to the wall, much like hanging any picture.

Another nice thing about leaning a mirror is that THERE IS NO MEASURING INVOLVED. I hate having to hang something oversized  that usually requires securing on to two screws or toggle bolts.

Leaning a large ornate mirror in your foyer makes quite a statement and first impression on your visitors.

Large, ornate mirrors look great leaning in dressing rooms.

And a corner or nook is also the perfect place to lean a gorgeous mirror.

Lean a mirror to create a pretty background for a desk or other lovely chest or console.

What better way to hide unsightly things such as electrical sockets or cords than leaning a pretty mirror over them.

The bathroom is another place where a oversized leaning mirror makes a stunning statement, especially if you have a beautiful tub.

Leaning mirrors make an impact no matter where you choose to display them.

The bedroom seems to be a favorite place to lean a large, ornate mirror. Here is a large painted Trumeau mirror that is a perfect addition to a French style bedroom.

A large mirror in a small room creates the illusion of depth, so don’t be scared to go big. What a pretty Venetian mirror!

You can even attach a pretty support to lean your mirror against, much like a picture frame. This would enhance any bedroom.

You might choose to tag team a space with two large leaning mirrors. These happen to match but you could choose to use two that were similar in size but with slightly different frames.

I love the way these twin paned mirrors give this room the feel of having two arched windows.

Mirrors don't have to be grand. Painted vintage ones look great leaning in farmhouse style spaces.

Also all leaning mirrors don't have to be oversized. Lean them on top of consoles and chests.

If you have a collection of small mirrors, you can lean them on top of a piece of fabulous furniture in your foyer or any other space you wish to create a vignette. Start by putting the largest one at the back and work your way to the front with the smaller ones, slightly overlapping but making sure that each item can be seen and enjoyed.

Don't be afraid to go against scale, it adds a great deal of character to the room.
